Abstract | The purpose of this paper is to explore the significance of spirituality for the understanding of human dignity, a concept that is important to both the letter and spirit of law protecting the human person. It will begin first by exploring how spirituality is defined. It will then consider its significance for both national and international law, focusing in particular on universally recognised standards of value. In doing so, the author suggests there is merit in refining the characterisation of spirituality and the scope for further research in this area. |
