| Abstract | Contextual reasoning is a common and expected ability amongst intelligent beings and there have been efforts to reflect that from the beginning in Artificial Intelligence. As usual, there have been two approaches, one more related to general intelligence and one more applied and related to specific practical contexts. This work provides a reconciled view, providing an approach which sits in a pre-existing generalist reasoning framework and showing how it can be applied to real applications. Due to the nature of the symbolic reasoning system the process naturally provides explanations to decisions made, a key property of any system, the more relevant in safety-critical applications as those discussed in this work. The proposed process emphasizes the personalization of systems based on stakeholders’ preferences. Due to its non-monotonic and argumentative nature, the system can cope with knowledge variability through time, including the co-existing of various users with their conflicting and varying individual preferences. |
