Abstract

Introduction
Practitioner projects are a great opportunity to explore your professional practice and context and to make changes for the better. Finding a focus for the inquiry, developing clear research questions and assessing the project’s feasibility and scale are, however, challenging tasks even for the most experienced of researchers. This chapter is the first of two chapters that look at relevant work-based research approaches and methods, helping you rise to the challenge of completing a meaningful and methodologically sound practitioner project that can help you discover something of value about an interesting issue or a problem at your workplace, and to act on that knowledge. This chapter takes a practical approach to explore the crucial elements of planning a practitioner project, up to and including writing a proposal and considering the ethical implications of that proposal.
