Title | Representing collaborative work: the airport as common information space |
Authors | Fields, B., Tassi, A. and Amaldi-Trillo, P. |
Abstract | This paper reports an ethnographic-style field study of work in a complex setting: an airport, which focused on Air Traffic Control activities in the airport tower, as well as other work sites around the airport. The study emphasised the importance for successful operation of the coordination of different peoples', geographically distributed, activities. Through the concept of Common Information Space, from CSCW literature, the paper develops concepts to help understand this complex domain. The Common Information Space concept is proposed as the basis of a systematic framework to analyse typical scenarios extracted from the observational data collected in the study. |
