Abstract

This paper describes a new children's digital library emphasizing its design and evaluation, and the development process in which children played a role as design partners and testers. A novel participatory process was used, and observational study was used as a means of refinement to the initial design of the DL prototype. In contrast with many current DLs, the system described supports users in writing and collaboratively creating text as well as finding source material. The paper has been cited numerous times, both in relation to the DLs novel features, and in relation to the development process.
