Abstract | The urban food supply system in Ghana is dominated by street and market traders. Despite considerable hardships, these traders, predominantly women, continue to play a key role in supplying food to urban populations. This chapter examines the roles of these traders in Ghana. It also examines how street vendors and retailers operate, the institutional forms that shape their livelihoods, and how they secure their livelihoods in the context of a highly uncertain and insecure environment. |
