Abstract | John Buckley is one of the most significant Irish composers of the 20th and 2st centuries. Constellations is the first full-length musical biography of the composer. It draws on primary sources, investigates Buckey's compositional style and aesthetics, and sets in narrative context Buckley's compositional output to date. The book includes selected analyses of 15 works spanning Buckely's catalgue ranging from his earliest work from 1973 (Sonata for Cor Anglais) to his 2009 work for multiple flutes and tape, Constellations. The book also includes a full catalogue of works, a discography and the full lobretto to his opera, The Word Upon the WIndow Pane. |
