| Description | Without Loss – a setting of Rowan Williams’ poem ‘Bach for the Cello’ – was commissioned by the Lambeth Singers in 2007. The brief was simply to set one of the Archbishop’s poems in a piece suitable for liturgical use, and this one – apart from the obvious musical associations of the title – spoke to me in terms of potential for setting; the words evocative, and the structure loose enough to allow me to construct my own complementary scaffolding around it. First performance: Lambeth Palace, London, 1 July 2008 |
