Recorder Concerto

The Concerto for recorder and ensemble/chamber orchestra is a response both to the Baroque heritage of the recorder and to its later 20th century reincarnation in the hands of players such as Franz Brüggen and Michael Vetter. This duality is reflected in the postmodern approach to instrumentation and the polystylistic musical content. The latter encompasses neo-Baroque/Classical/Romantic, modernist and experimental styles, and extended techniques at the level of both performance and composition. Extended techniques at the performance level include multiphonics, microtones and extended range. At the compositional level there are passages of indeterminacy, in particular aleatoric counterpoint.
