Abstract | This group has previously presented methods for the rapid generation of patient-specific finite element (FE) models for use in EIT reconstruction using elastic deformation. In particular, the work has concentrated on the imaging of brain function, and methods for warping existing FE library models of varying complexity but with accurate anatomical details have been developed and reported. What is still unclear is how the use of the more accurate geometric form from the warped FE mesh improves the forward solution and the quality of reconstructed images. This paper presents initial results that validate this notion by comparison of boundary voltages, image quality and localization accuracy within a warped mesh with data from a simulated forward solution and phantom measurements. |
