Abstract | CEEDR provided an early assessment of the economic effectiveness of four equity funds (Enterprise Capital Fund, Capital for Enterprise Fund, Aspire Fund and Early Growth Fund) that the Government has introduced in recent years to address market failures in the provision of finance to SMEs. The research, largely undertaken by Professor North and Dr Baldock involved 51 in-depth qualitative face-to-face and extended telephone interviews with SME managers in order to provide analysis of the impacts of the government equity funds on successful and unsuccessful applicant businesses and the extent to which alternative sources of equity and debt finance were considered and sourced. |
