Authors | Deepwell, K. |
Abstract | In this interview, Katy Deepwell talks to artist Mary Kelly on the occasion of her exhibition Mea Culpa at the Robert Sandelson Gallery in London, 10 May-8 June 2001. Kelly discusses how 'the right to narrate' was a central idea in the work as well as the process of making the work from lint, generated by a filter in a dryer. She discusses how psychoanalysis and feminism inform her work, the relation of Mea Culpa to Gloria Patri as an examination of gender in war and the military and how ideas of "transgressive femininity" are tied up with claims to "avant-garde authority". |
