Abstract | This article discusses Imaginary Organs of a Cyborg, a CDRom artwork by British artists Jane Prophet. Katy Deepwell writes: 'Prophet playfully suggests new possibilities for imaging and unravelling the inner workings of a cyborg, its interior life and imaginary spaces, a powerful layering of photographic imagery, diagrams, 3-d modelling and computer coding. Medical imaging of organs in ultrasound is merged with the mechanical world, photographic realism of the flesh with an invented post-cartesian interior and architectonic diagrams of the skull with the clicking freewheeling play of a word-game, Prophet’s multimedia work alludes to and plays upon theories of how the body functions as a physiological and philosophical entity.' |
