Authors | Deepwell, K. |
Abstract | On the occasion of Ida Applebroog’s exhibition at Hauser & Wirth in London (17 March- 30 April 2011), Katy Deepwell interviewed the artist about her work over the last thirty years. The discussion looks at her recent work Mona Lisa (2009) which incorporates drawings and small paintings from 1981 and 1991, including vagina drawings, made in the 1970s. The interview discusses her attitudes to painting, installation of multiple works, her processes and techniques, including her use of gampi and mylar, as well as works like Marginalia (1992-1993), Caleb (2011), Trinity Towers (1982). Appelbroog also discusses her life and her situation as a woman artist. |
