Abstract | The transcript of an interview with Clare Short M.P. on the subject of the various feminist causes, some of them fringe issues and not popular, which she has championed. She discusses her attempts to have soft pornography, currently tolerated in newspapers and magazines, made illegal and the problems in trying to ban materials offensive to women without extending the State's powers of censorship into other areas. She discusses the positive response her campaigns have had from both men and women, the level of awareness of these women of feminist debate, the issue of soft pornography's link with violence towards women, and the findings and legislation on this issue which have already emerged from the U.S.A. She also discusses other media reforms planned by the Labour party concerning feminist issues, and the nature of post-feminism. |
