Abstract

We investigate the Labor Relations Commissions (LRCs) system as a mechanism for resolving individual labor disputes in South Korea. We examine their effectiveness for workers and hence how far they represent a credible alternative to trade unionism and industrial action. Internationally, literature examining such systems’ effectiveness, i.e., their ability to provide workplace justice, is limited. This despite its increasing importance due to the growing individualization of the employment relationship globally.1 We contribute toward filling this gap in the context of a major industrialized country.
