| Abstract | The aim of this study was to develop a tool to assess the level of coaching skills of strength and conditioning (S&C) coaches. The study involved 213 S&C coaches working on the elite level with an average of 13.8 years of experience, employed across Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, National Basketball Association, National Football League, National Hockey League, Armed Forces, Australian Football League, English Premier League, and NCAA Division 1 FBS “Power Five” Conferences. Participants completed an evaluation form comprised of qualitative and quantitative questions. Hereafter, 22 participants further completed a test-retest within two weeks, the intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.771 (95% CI: 0729–0.807), demonstrating statistical reliability. This study has produced a preliminary evaluation tool that is reliable for evaluating S&C coaching expertise. It can be used by S&C coaches, their supervisors, and non-S&C managers to guide professional development and assesses the current skills, knowledge, and experiences of a S&C coach. |
