Title | Isn’t higher education employability? |
Authors | Gibbs, P. |
Abstract | This article seeks to avoid the conflation of employability and other, wider aims of education into one notion of higher education. Drawing initially on Aristotle and then on the existentialism, it attempts to distinguish between employability as one of the outcomes of higher education, and other aspects of personal and civic development. In doing so, the notion of competence is retained, but its link with vocationalism as a primary education aim is questioned. |
