| Abstract | The original concept of sustainability was introduced in the Brundtland Report as a ‘‘development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs’’ (WCED 1987:47). As a result of this influential report three pillars were designed to demonstrate the interconnected nature of sustainability beyond just environmental. The original 3 Pillars were social, economic and environment but each must not be viewed in isolation as it weakens the concept of sustainability. Relating sustainability to Early Childhood, there is an urgency around awareness of the bigger picture and the wider social, economic and environmental influences that impact on quality rights-based (human and non-human) Early Childhood practice. 2024. Sustainable Pedagogy. Invited speaker and panel chair. Nursery World Conference London. ‘Sustainability in the Early Years: Economical, Environmental, Social’. 12th November. |
